Kaushik specializes in shipping, insurance, commodities, international trade and corporate structuring.
Kaushik has vast experience in handling admiralty cases across admiralty courts in India involving maritime claims and liens. He has experience in casualty investigation and has worked and coordinated with surveyors, investigators, loss assessors, expert witness, naval architects, and government authorities in cases involving maritime casualty.
Kaushik’s demonstrated capabilities in appearing before ad-hoc and institutional arbitrations involving COA disputes, Off-hire disputes, charterparty disputes and demurrage and laytime disputes. He has advised on construction disputes involving delay analysis, causation and measuring damages. He is equally adept in advising corporate entities in setting up business operations in India having a global network and structure. He regularly advises on flagging requirements and transfer of ownership under Indian flag.
Kaushik has experience in advising on various H&M claims covering issues such as total loss, constructive total loss, machinery breakdown, fire claims, general average, salvage operations, IRDA regulations. He has significant experience in construction disputes involving delay analysis and computation of damages.
He is frequently instructed by P&I clubs, Owners, Charterers, commodity traders, trading houses, etc who reach out him for his practical approach.
Prior to setting up Sochannam Legal in 2013, Kaushik was a part of leading law firm in Mumbai which had an association with a leading English law firm specializing in shipping and international trade. Kaushik also trained at a leading barrister chamber specializing in maritime law and insurance law.
